US Scholarships for Canadian Students

Many Canadian students come down to the United States to attend school here and many have asked if they are eligible for financial aid.

To be eligible for federal financial aid such as FSEOG, Pell Grant, and Stafford Loans, you must be a United States citizen. There is no way of getting around this rule and if you wish to get federal FAFSA aid, you must become a citizen.

You can apply for private student loans and private or 3rd party scholarships. Private student loans are not backed or endorsed by the US government like other student loans are. You will probably have to start making payments immediately and you would not be eligible for things like deferment or forbearance.

There are private scholarships that are open to students who are not residents of the United States, however these scholarships are not easy to find nor win. The best bet is for you to create a profile on a scholarship search site such as fastweb and see if there are any available.
